I met Simona on the embroidery classes organized by the CERN Welcome Club along with various language and sport courses. She is connected with CERN for more than 10 years now and probably will stay for another 10 since her husband has a permanent employment. Simona comes originally from Italy and it makes her happy that whenever she's homesick, her beautiful home city Como is only a couple of hours drive away.

Yana comes from Russia, from the city Vorkuta which is located in the Arctic Circle. She met her French husband-to-be in Strasbourg while doing her PhD, who proposed after less than a year of relationship so Yana wouldn’t disappear into the world. Now she’s doing fellowship at CERN, working on silicon detectors and she’s waiting for her french citizenship to apply for a position as a CERN staff. Yana always comes to CERN by bike with her 5 year old son behind her in the seat, despite the rain, snow or hot summer temperatures.
